Outdoor Play Ideas - Fall
Nature Bracelets
Wrap masking tape around your child’s wrist, sticky side facing out. Go outside and encourage her to pick up items she finds interesting and stick them to the tape. Items like leaves, grass, petals, even feathers could be added to the bracelet.
Tracking Animals
Help children hunt for and preserve animal tracks. Before heading outside pack Plaster of Paris, a small container of water, a small mixing container and a stirring device. Go outside with your child and have him hunt for animal tracks. Clear the track of any debris and mix the plaster with a little water and stir. Pour this into the track and allow it to overflow the margins of the track. Once it has dried completely your son can dig it up and look at the markings up close.
Leaf Jumping
Children love to run and jump and roll around on the ground. Why not give them something to jump into like a pile of raked leaves? They can help with the raking of the leaves, then watch as they run, jump, dive and roll into the piles of crunchy leaves.
Take a Closer Look
Your child can see and hear more outside with a special homemade helper. Help her to cover a paper roll with colored paper of her choosing. Tape the paper in place and leave the ends open. Make a small hole at one end of the roll and pull string through it. Tie a loop large enough to go around her neck. When you go outside for a walk together she can wear her special helper and use it to look more closely at the flowers or listen for the birds in the trees.
