Child Care Quality Improvement Coordination2006-2007 Allocation = $99,000 Organization: Puckett Institute Learning Alliance In partnership with Smart Start, the contracted direct service provider will provide a coordinated quality enhancement program for childcare providers to improve the quality of childcare for children, birth to age five. Child developmental technical assistants will work with childcare directors to define and prioritize their needs and specify the timeframe in which needs will be addressed. All childcare facilities may receive technical assistance; however, 1 and 2 star rated facilities may receive priority status. Technical assistance strategies may include: classroom/teacher observation, training and direct guidance for improvement plan development, director coaching, and colleague mentoring. Areas to address through technical assistance may include: arrangement of class environment, classroom schedules, planning appropriate learning activities, professional education career plans, parent involvement strategies, basic business and personnel management policies, and staff supervision. Services will be provided on-site at facilities by early child development technical assistants during hours convenient for childcare programs. In an effort to coordinate services, project staff will participate in Smart Start facilitated Quality Team meetings providing an opportunity to plan and problem-solve with other professionals focused on childcare quality improvement.
