Early Intervention Liaison

The Early Intervention Liaison project will provide on-site educational and technical assistance for Buncombe County pediatricians, general practitioners and their staff to successfully integrate a comprehensive developmental screening process for children 0-5 into their practice and to coordinate referrals to appropriate community resources. Two developmental specialists with oversight by a registered nurse will develop and disseminate a community resources directory including therapeutic, developmental and supportive services and written materials regarding the referral process. In addition, project staff will provide each participating medical practice with a set of North Carolina Pediatric endorsed screening tool(s). Project staff may also work with parents of children in the medical setting to help them anticipate and strengthen their children's developmental skills. On a limited basis, as per childcare providers' concerns, Ages and Stages developmental pre-screenings tools will be distributed to childcare facilities, results reviewed, and consultation and referrals provided.
