Partners for Learning Success

Organization: Asheville City Schools Preschool
The Partners for Learning Success Coordinator will nurture, support, and teach families/caregivers to successfully prepare their children for kindergarten. The program will offer learning groups featuring hands-on, engaging activities. Learning groups will use a variety of developmentally appropriate materials, books, and learning games to focus on literacy skills. Although pre-literacy skills are emphasized, developmental skills in the cognitive, emotional, and social domains will be addressed as well as character education centered on cooperation and caring. Families/caregivers will learn strategies to develop children's oral language, phonological awareness, and emergent writing skills. Families/caregivers will be given the opportunity to incorporate enjoyable learning activities into everyday situations with their children and will be encouraged to replicate similar activities in their homes. Partners for Learning Success will serve children two to five years of age who are not currently enrolled in regulated childcare. Families from all income levels throughout Buncombe County will be eligible to participate. Learning groups will be held in locations of families' choice and at times that are convenience to families/caregivers.
