Programs: Preschool Intervention / Inclusion
A team of clinicians will provide direct services to preschoolers with special needs and offer education and technical assistance to childcare providers and caregivers regarding children's special needs. Activity staff will assist families of children with special needs in accessing high-quality childcare and other needed services in the community. Activity staff will guide caregivers and childcare providers through the special needs identification, evaluation and eligibility process. Services will be provided to children with developmental delays and challenging social/emotional behaviors by implementing an Individual Education Plan (IEP) or an Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) in collaboration with the child's team and/or providing age-appropriate intervention until such a plan can be developed. Technical assistance may include: training for childcare providers on child-specific needs and classroom strategies, specific diagnoses and disability issues, and consultation on individual child needs for successful classroom inclusion. Limited funding may be available to provide bilingual services and short-term specialized therapies not covered by Medicaid or other insurance and purchase assistive equipment unavailable through other sources. Services will be provided in natural environments at times and locations that meet clients' needs, with an emphasis placed on delivering services within childcare programs.
