Child Care Health Consultants will provide health and safety consultation, on site education for childcare providers, and immunization record compliance oversight.

The Early Intervention Liaison will provide on site educational and technical assistance for Buncombe County pediatricians, general practitioners, and their staff to successfully integrate a comprehensive developmental screening process for children 0-5 into their practice.

Early Childhood Dental Initiative

A full-time Project Coordinator, plus part-time contracted or staff Public Health Dental Hygienists, will target preschool children who have never received a dental screening.

In partnership with Smart Start, will provide a coordinated quality enhancement program for childcare providers to improve the quality of childcare for children, birth to age five.

Community college instructors will offer a variety of early childhood education courses to childcare providers, directors and students interested in pursuing a career in early childhood education/care.

Sustaining Facility Quality — Facility Incentives
Conducted by: Smart Start of Buncombe County
Provide participating eligible, regulated childcare centers and homes with monetary incentives, based upon specific designated criteria, to sustain the high quality of childcare already achieved and to build capacity within the childcare system for children age 0-5.

Sustaining Facility Quality — Individual Incentives

Childcare caregivers and directors will receive grants for criteria-based achievements as specified by Smart Start.

Child Care Subsidy

Buncombe County Child Care Services, which is the local purchaser of subsidized child care for the Division of Child Development, reimburses Star-rated child care providers through a systematic approach.
